Jerry Uelsmann (1934-2022) was an American surrealist photographer recognized as a forerunner of photomontage in the 20th century.
He is best known for his surreal, dreamlike, and enigmatic photographs created through a unique method of composite printing in the darkroom, long before digital editing tools like Photoshop existed.
His work has been extensively exhibited and collected nationally and internationally, including a one-man exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in 1967.
