Set of six Woodmere China Currier & Ives collector plates, each 10.25" in diameter, from the "America's Love of Horses" series. Plates are in mint condition, with no chips, cracks, or scratches. Includes plates titled: 1) Trotting Cracks' At The Forge, 2) Trotting Cracks At Home, 3) Fast Trotters on Harlem Lane NY, 4) A Disputed Heat, 5) A Stopping Place On The Road, and 6) Coming From The Trot. Racing horses was one of the chief recreations in the American Colonies. Unscheduled match races began as soon as roads were built. More formal racing came with the advent of county fairs.
